Creating an Orchard at Lavender Meadows
Residents and Wildlife benefit from an Orchard
The residents of Lavender Meadows, an Extra Care scheme in Bishopton, Stratford-upon-Avon were delighted to benefit from the creation of an orchard. This wonderful addition was made possible by the efforts of a dedicated team from Kallik, who joined us and participated in a volunteering day.
Clare Moorman, one of the residents of Lavender Meadows came up with the original idea and contacted us to see if we could help. We loved the idea and after meetings with the residents to plan and organise, we were ready to plant.
We were fortunate to be joined by a team from Kallik, a leading global enterprise specialising in labeling and artwork management software. They enthusiastically took on the challenge of spending the day planting 23 fruit trees, marking the beginning of its inception.
The team also planted buddleia and helped to sow seeds for a wildflower meadow to help create a haven for wildlife. The day was rounded off with a visit to our nature reserve at Pathlow to pick up materials to build bug hotels.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped today. They did a fabulous job and were such a lovely team. We’re all really looking forward to seeing all of the blossom, sampling the fruit and seeing the buddleia and wildflowers bloom”
- Clair Moorman, Lavender Meadows resident
“I just wanted to say a big thank you to Forest of Hearts for a fantastic day. We had a lovely time planting fruit trees and felt the joy of creating a beautiful orchard for the retirement community at Lavender Meadows. I am sure that we all came away with a gardening tip or two!”
“It was not only rewarding but also a refreshing break from our screens; it's true that nothing beats a day outdoors in nature. We enjoyed our visit to the peaceful surroundings of Forest of Heart’s Pathlow base and appreciated being able to take materials home to make our Bug Hotels. We are thankful for such a memorable and rewarding experience”
