Community Tree Planting Day
Saturday December 19th saw members of the local community plant trees with us at Barley Fields in Long Marston.
This was our second tree planting event in consecutive days after our Green Therapy group had made a great start the day before.
After a wet and windy planting day on the Friday, the Saturday was beautifully clear and dry, which provided perfect conditions to arm ourselves with spades and get going.
Volunteers donned wellies and Christmas jumpers and stayed in their family bubbles as well as distancing themselves across the stretch of field to comply with Covid safety regulations.
We planted for around 4 hours with a break in between where we warmed up with festive mulled wine and mince pies.
The area will benefit greatly from the creation of the hedgerow as it will increase the biodiversity of the landscape, provide a suitable windbreak and soak up air pollution.
All together over the 2 days we planted over 1000 trees which was a massive achievement. Thank you to everybody who attended and for your hard work to make a real difference.
